Mainers protest Plum Creek
In December, hundreds of citizens and Environment Maine members
attended hearings to speak out against Plum Creek’s proposal to build
massive subdivisions and resorts on the shores of Moosehead Lake. If
the Seattle-based real estate developer’s plan goes forward, Mainers
could lose access to woodlands, lakes and trails in the North Woods.
Despite public outcry against the plan, Plum Creek has done little to
scale down its proposal, which calls for nearly 1,000 house lots and
two huge resorts carved into 20,000 acres of wild land surrounding
Moosehead Lake. At the hearings, Environment Maine staff and members
called on the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) to deny the permit
and block what would be the largest development project in the history
of the state.

Moosehead Lake would be forever changed if real estate behemouth Plum Creek is allowed to build its massive development.
