PORTLAND,
Maine A new report from a Maine environmental group says nearly half of
the fish stocks in New England's ocean waters are in jeopardy from
overfishing.
The
report, which was released by Environment Maine on behalf of the Marine
Fish Conservation Network, says that only ten fish stocks were known to
be healthy in 2004.
That's down from 13 healthy fish stocks in 2001.
The report also says that only 13 percent of the fish populations nationwide are deemed to be healthy.
The study blames ineffective management for the poor status of fishery resources.
