Congratulations
to the numerous Maine state legislators for supporting the New Energy
Future platform to move America and Maine beyond fossil fuels and
toward a cleaner energy future.
With
rising concerns about our dependence on oil and the environmental
impacts of our energy consumption, there is strong public support for
changing the direction of our energy policy. This election saw strong
leadership from numerous candidates that came from across the political
spectrum including those in leadership positions, incumbents and
first-time members.
Senate
President Beth Edmonds endorsed the platform, as did Ranking House
Republican Appropriations Committee member Sawin Millet. The House
Chair of the Utilities and Energy Committee, Larry Bliss, endorsed the
platform as well, as did Sen. Karl Turner who serves on the Education
and Cultural Affairs Committee. Clark Souther, Lance Weddell and Seth
Berry are all newly elected Democratic members of the Maine House, and
John McDonough is a newly elected Republican member of the House. For a
complete list of candidates supporting the New Energy Future Platform
go to www.EnvironmentMaine.org.
These
candidates committed to supporting a bold clean energy plan
strengthening the momentum to put our national security, economy and
environment a top priority.
The
message from this election is clear. Maine people want a new direction
on energy. Environment Maine looks forward to working with all of these
legislators over the next legislative session to deliver on the promise
of a New Energy Future.
