Last week, President Bush ordered a temporary suspension of
environmental rules for gasoline, making it easier for refiners to meet
demand and possibly dampen prices at the pump ("Bush seeks probe of
gasoline pricing," April 26).
Brilliant!
You may not be able to breathe because of the air pollution, but you can get where you want to go cheaply.
And business will boom. So hey, what's the problem?
Wake up!
Gasoline is a finite resource that has peaked.
Gasoline prices will rise unless we play the subsidize-while-pretending-we-are-not-subsidizing game.
Heaven forbid we should talk about conservation of gasoline and fuel standards and speed limits.
We wouldn't want to restrict our freedom to head over the cliff while wearing air-purification masks.
And the rest of the planet?
Hey, don't worry - smile and be happy that Americans can keep on consuming, polluting and destroying.
