Here in Maine we are known for living "the way life should be"—but our air is not as it should be. People visiting Maine expecting fresh, pine-scented air instead are greeted by unhealthy air from Kittery to Acadia. Air pollution from cars causes thousands of asthma attacks and forces healthy people inside on hot summer days.
Right now our state has an opportunity to cut tailpipe pollution by putting cleaner cars on the road. With the state's Climate Action Plan finalized, we should implement one of the pieces to reduce air and global warming pollution. However, out-of-state lobbyists representing automakers and oil dealers have urged otherwise supportive state officials to delay implementation of the Cleaner Cars program.
It’s our turn to join the six other Northeast states that have adopted the Cleaner Cars program and do our part in the region to help reduce air pollution and global warming. More.
