Write a letter to the editor on overfishing

Thank you for choosing to write a letter to the editor!

The best letters to the editor are simply written, short, focus on one or two points, and capture your interest in the issue.

Three important points you might use:

  • The fishing industry's future is uncertain and bleak if the problem of overfishing is not solved.
  • The best way to solve the problem is to allow scientists to determine how many fish are caught each year, instead of the industry itself.
  • With the leadership of Sen. Olympia Snowe and Rep. Tom Allen, Congress passed a good bill to limit overfishing in 2006. Now it is up to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to write the rules to carry that mission forward.
Most newspapers require that letters to the editor be no longer than 250 words.
